Nubra Valley (Leh to Hunder)

Since we enjoyed the people and scenery of Ladakh so much we decided to do a 3 day, 2 night Jeep safari of the Nubra Valley. Our Jeep left at 7:30am, and it was a very bumpy ride up to the top of the Khardung La (18,380 ft) which claims to be the highest motorable pass in the world. Ian really enjoyed the snow at the top and even got a view of K2, but I was just queasy. The ride down was a little better and I had recovered by the time we got to Hunder. The guest house was very basic, but the food was great. In the afternoon our driver took us for a trip to the sand dunes, and Ian insisted that we try to ride the double hump camels (seeing as we had ridden the single hump camel in Rajasthan). After the ride (the camels were great except for the spitting!), we walked around Hunder. The town was like out of a fairytale with little creeks running through it and secret laneways all over! Even the cows and donkeys seemed friendly.
