Touring Bangkok
We started off the day with breakfast on the 59th floor of the hotel. The views of Bangkok were just amazing...as was the food. While the hotel offered shuttles around Bangkok, we decided to explore ourselves and started with the walk to the skytrain. We took the train to the Chao Phraya River, where we caught a rice-boat which provided a tour of the river. The boat dropped us off at the Grand Palace, and after making it though all of the people trying to scam us (telling us it was closed, or we couldn't get in, etc.) we made it into the Palace grounds. The buildings were very ornate and interesting...but we both decided that it was a bit gawdy for our taste. We then walked to Th Khao San, which is supposed to be a popular spot for tourists to shop and hang out, but Ian was not feeling well again and the food markets were a little overwhelming. We then walked down to Wat Pho, home to the largest reclining Buddah, before catching a tuk-tuk back to the hotel. On the way back to the hotel our tuk-tuk overheated due to all of the traffic and we had to wait while the driver (who was obviously prepared) poured 6 bottles of water into the radiator. Ian was feverish and dizzy by this point, so we were just in a hurry to get back. While Ian tried to sleep of his sickness, I enjoyed our delux hotel room and even ordered a movie! Unfortunately, with Ian's illness coming and going we had to make the decision to cancel our upcoming hike.
