Osiyan - India's Independence Day!
We decided to stay in another small town, so we cancelled our train tickets to Jaisalmer and took the Rohet hotel driver to Osiyan. We stayed at the Camel Camp which reminded us of South Africa! We were in the middle of the Great Thar Desert, so we stayed in a deluxe tent in the middle of the sand dunes! The tent included a rug and lots of wood furniture, and even our own washroom with shower! After a huge lunch, and a swim in the pool (amazing on top of a sanddune! 360 degree view), we started off on our camel safari. My camel was Jeremy, and it quite an adventure getting up on his back and starting off into the desert! We rode for 1 hour and 45 minutes, until we reached a small town where we hopped onto the Jeep that took us back to the camp (we were greatful for the Jeep as our bottoms were getting sore!!). We had a candle-lit dinner by the pool and fell asleep around 10...unfortnuately we didn't sleep very much with the Independence Day celebrations and dogs barking echoing throughout the desert.
